Can a root canal tooth hurt?

A properly treated root canal tooth should not cause spontaneous or sharp pain. However, mild soreness for a few days after the procedure is normal, and some tenderness to biting can occur if the bite is slightly high or the area is still healing.

- Mild soreness when chewing often resolves with a simple bite adjustment by your dentist.
- Sharp, throbbing pain that keeps you awake is not normal and should be evaluated.
- Always inform your dentist if you had pain before treatment so they can plan accordingly.
