Root Canal

Does every root canal need a crown?

Not every root canal needs a crown, but most back teeth (molars and premolars) do. Front teeth that have enough healthy structure remaining may be restored with a permanent filling instead. The crown protects the tooth from fracturing, especially under chewing forces.

- Molars and premolars almost always need a crown after a root canal.
- Some front teeth can be restored with a permanent filling if enough tooth structure remains.
- Always complete the final restoration as soon as possible to avoid fracture.
