Root Canal

When is a root canal necessary?

A root canal is necessary when the pulp (nerve and blood supply inside the tooth) becomes infected or irreversibly inflamed due to deep decay, cracks, repeated dental work, or trauma. Symptoms often include persistent pain, sensitivity, swelling, or a gum pimple.

- Persistent throbbing pain, especially at night, is a strong indicator.
- Sensitivity that lasts longer than a few seconds after hot or cold usually means nerve damage.
- If you have a deep cavity or a cracked tooth, ask your dentist whether a root canal is recommended.
