Root Canal

When is a root canal required?

A root canal is required when the pulp (the soft tissue inside the tooth) becomes infected or inflamed due to deep decay, a crack, or trauma. Common signs include persistent pain, prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling, or a pimple on the gum.

- See a dentist if you have throbbing pain that keeps you awake or lasts more than a few days.
- Swelling, a bad taste, or a gum pimple are also clear signs that the nerve may be affected.
- An X‑ray can show infection even when you feel no pain.
