Lushnje

Lushnje is a nice city in central Albania that shows a lot of its rich history and natural beauty. Situated on the low, fertile plain of Myzeqe, is not only an agricultural centre but also famous for the green natural landscape and colourful cultural heritage.

Agricultural tradition is closely linked with the history of the city. The area Myzeqe Plain—among the most productive regions in Albania—has been cultivated for centuries and provided a base for the growth and development of Lushnje. Among the essential and significant events, one could mention the Congress of Lushnje in 1920 as one milestone in Albania's struggle for independence and statehood.

There are a number of historical and cultural sites in Lushnje. The history museum of the city gives insight into its development, displaying exhibits of various articles related to the agricultural and social history of the area. Not far from this city is the Ardenica Monastery, representing a rich spiritual heritage of this region, containing stunning murals of extraordinary religious value.

Nature lovers must find the surroundings of Lushnje very appealing. The city is encircled by olive groves and vineyards that supply some of the finest olive oil and wine in Albania. Next to it lies the Divjaka-Karavasta National Park, a paradise for birdwatchers, with a variety of bird species, including the very rare Dalmatian pelican. It offers hiking, birdwatching, and simply admiring the natural beauty in its wetlands, lagoons, and coastal pine forests.
