Vlorë
Vlora is the third largest city and municipality in Albania. It is also the second-largest port city in the country. Geographically, Vlora is located on the northern shore of the Mediterranean Sea, with a coastline that borders both the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, forming the Bay of Vlora. Vlora is approximately 135 kilometers from Tirana, the capital of Albania, and just 72 miles from Italy. Numerous buses and vehicles regularly travel between these destinations, providing convenient transportation options for people.
Notably, Vlora was where Albania declared its independence on November 28, 1912, under Ismail Qemal. The town was occupied by Italians during different periods, including World War II when nearby Sazan Island served as a submarine base for German and Italian forces.
Vlora is famous for its beautiful beaches, historic landmarks, and bustling harbor. Visitors enjoy its clear waters, the Independence Monument, and the 16th-century Muradie Mosque. The city's large harbor is vital for trade and tourism.
Surrounded by natural beauty, Vlora is close to the scenic Llogara Pass and the Karaburun Peninsula. It serves as the gateway to the Albanian Riviera, known for charming villages and olive groves.
