Can a root canal tooth fall out?

A tooth that has had a root canal does not “fall out” on its own. However, if it is not properly restored with a crown, it can fracture below the gum line and require extraction. The tooth structure becomes more brittle after a root canal, so a crown is essential to protect it.

- A crown is essential to prevent the tooth from cracking or fracturing.
- Avoid chewing ice, hard candy, or sticky foods on the treated side.
- If the tooth breaks, see your dentist promptly—it may still be savable.
