Root Canal

Can antibiotics heal an infected root canal?

Antibiotics cannot heal an infected root canal. They can temporarily control the infection and reduce symptoms, but the only way to eliminate the infection and save the tooth is to physically remove the infected pulp through root canal treatment.

- Take antibiotics exactly as prescribed, but understand they are a temporary measure.
- Complete the root canal treatment as scheduled to remove the source of infection.
- If you have already had a root canal and pain returns, antibiotics may be part of retreatment but will not fix the underlying issue.
