Root Canal

Do you need antibiotics after a root canal?

Antibiotics are not automatically prescribed after every root canal. They are typically recommended when there are signs of spreading infection, fever, swelling, or if you have a medical condition that makes infection harder to control. For a routine root canal with no active infection, antibiotics are usually not needed.

- Antibiotics are only prescribed when there is an active infection or a specific medical need — not routinely.
- If prescribed, complete the full course and do not stop early even if symptoms improve.
- Take any prescribed antibiotics with you in your carry-on luggage if flying home after treatment.
