Does your face swell after a root canal?

Mild swelling around the tooth is not common after a routine root canal, but it can occur if there was significant infection before treatment or if the tooth is near the sinus. Significant facial swelling that spreads is not normal and should be evaluated promptly.

- A cold pack applied to the outside of your cheek for 15‑minute intervals can help reduce mild swelling.
- If swelling appears days after the procedure or spreads to your face or neck, contact your clinic immediately.
- Do not apply heat to the area, as it can increase swelling.
