How long does root canal numbing last?

Numbing from local anesthesia after a root canal typically lasts 2 to 4 hours. Depending on the type and amount of anesthetic used, it can sometimes last longer. Sensation gradually returns as the anesthesia wears off.

- Be careful not to bite your numb lip or cheek while eating or talking.
- If numbness lasts more than 6–8 hours, call your dentist for advice.
