Root Canal

If you get a root canal do you need a crown?

Not always, but often yes. Back teeth (molars and premolars) almost always need a crown after a root canal because they are under heavy chewing forces and become brittle. Front teeth may only need a permanent filling if enough healthy tooth remains.

- Molars and premolars typically require a crown to prevent fracture.
- Front teeth may be restored with a tooth‑colored filling if sufficient structure remains.
- Delaying a crown on a back tooth increases the risk of the tooth splitting and being lost.
