Root Canal

Is a root canal a dead tooth?

A root canal removes the nerve and pulp from inside the tooth, so the tooth no longer has living tissue inside. However, the tooth remains in your mouth and functions normally because it is anchored by the surrounding bone and gums. In a functional sense, it is not “dead”—it is a preserved natural tooth.

- Think of a root canal as saving the tooth’s structure while removing the source of infection.
- A crown protects the tooth from fracture and keeps it functional.
- With proper care, a root‑canal‑treated tooth can serve you for a lifetime.
