Root Canal

When can I use a straw after root canal?

It is best to avoid using a straw for at least 24 to 48 hours after a root canal. The suction can dislodge the temporary filling or disturb the healing tissues around the tooth.

- Drink from a cup for the first few days to protect the temporary filling.
- If you must use a straw, use gentle suction and avoid directing it toward the treated side.
- If the temporary filling comes out, save it and call the clinic—they can usually recement it quickly.
